From the January Issue of

The Outline

Happy New Year!  Hard to believe another decade has gone by.  I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.  My husband and I enjoyed a holiday filled with family, friends, and even a dog agility trial thrown in over the New Year to round things out!  Now it’s on to the business of 2010.

For many of us, the New Year brings resolutions, which almost always involve some type of positive change.  PCRA is no exception and has a few changes in the works.  The first is that as of February 1, PCRA will have new executive management in the form of Innovative Association Management Company (or Innovative AMC), a Virginia group whose principals are Dave Wenhold and Melanie Dixon.  Many of you may recognize Dave Wenhold’s name from his years of service to NCRA.  We’re thrilled to have Innovative AMC on board with PCRA, as Dave and Melanie are intimately familiar with the profession of court reporting and bring a wealth of association management and government relations experience to the table.  In this issue of The Outline, you’ll find an article introducing our new management group.  Please join me in welcoming Innovative AMC as the new Executive Director of PCRA.  We look forward to working with them to make PCRA a better and stronger association for all Pennsylvania reporters.

PCRA’s current Executive Director, Julie Jordan, came to PCRA almost three years ago.  At that time, PCRA was contemplating moving on from its then-current executive management, and Julie literally saved the day for the association when she agreed to step in temporarily as our Executive Director.  Julie guided us through a very difficult transition and has worked tirelessly on behalf of PCRA, many times going above and beyond what her actual contract with the association called for.  Under Julie’s management, PCRA revamped The Outline, created a new website which included a member forum, instituted online and automatic dues renewal, and created a “Going Green” policy where much of our communication with members is now electronic.  Behind the scenes, Julie has handled all the day-to-day business of the association, as well as coordinating board and committee functions and playing a huge role in our annual convention.  Her dedication and professionalism will be sorely missed, but we wish Julie all the best as she moves on to pursue her true love, photography.  Julie will be devoting herself full time to her photography business, Julie Jordan Photography, so visit her at www.juliejordanphotography.com and check out her wonderful, creative portraits.  Thank you, Julie, for all you have done for PCRA and for the profession of court reporting!

Yet another change for PCRA will occur in April, when new officers will be installed at our annual convention.  President-Elect Lillian Freiler is preparing to lead PCRA as its next President.  Lil has worked very hard on PCRA’s 2010-2011 work plan, which includes feedback from the member survey, as well as items from our September strategic planning session.  The officers and board are very excited about the positive changes in store for PCRA.  You can help make these plans a reality by joining one of our committees.  Time commitments are flexible and we’d welcome your participation.

Lastly, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you all for the opportunity to serve PCRA as President for the past two years.  Your support and encouragement have been invaluable.  While we’ve had to deal with many difficult issues, the experience has been rewarding.  I am honored to have had the opportunity to give back to this association and to my profession.  I will continue service on the board as Immediate Past President and look forward to working with Innovative AMC and the new officers and directors to take PCRA into the future.  I am humbled by the hard work and dedication of PCRA’s volunteers and by the support of our members.  Without you, we could not fulfill our mission:  “Every Reporter – ONE VOICE.”

With sincere gratitude and best wishes to you all,

Lisa Ann Bauer, RPR, CRR, CMRS

   2009-2010 PCRA President
